I'm surprised it takes that long! I just tested with my largest/most complex module and reloading after a change (with ":r") takes under a second. Is it possible you're in the "vivid" directory, and so it's attempting to recompile all the Vivid modules? (I.e. is Vivid.hs in your current working directory?)
