Hi music co-nerds,

Apologies for cross-posting,

But if anyone wants to (belatedly) break out into the comparative mainstream of reddit… I just noticed that the Procedural generation group is running a procedural music challenge. And they give a shoutout to Tidal as a tool of choice.

It’s less competitive than their generative video/3d model challenges… (I.e. it’s not been swamped by http://deepjazz.io/ <http://deepjazz.io/> entries) and there are 12000 subscribers to the channel, which is more audience than most of my performances get.

Happy going viral

—dan

>> Dear algorithmic music creators,
>>
>> The Neukom Institute for Computational Science, in collaboration with the Digital Musics and Sonic Arts programs at Dartmouth, is pleased to announce its first competition for an algorithmic DJ or producer of electronic dance music (EDM). The task will be autonomous performance of a 15-minute dance music set made using algorithms. The competition will consist of a dance event, to be held at Dartmouth on May 18th, 2016, as part of the 2016 Digital Arts EXposition (DAX).
>>
>> We hope that this competition will be a fun way to hear some of the great work that is going on out there in algorithmic electronic music, and raise awareness of computational creative culture.
>> To get involved in competition details, and to keep informed of submissions and evaluations, please join the mailing list (see the home page for sign-up) and the Creative Turing Tests Google group.
>>
>> The rules and specifications for the Creative Turing Tests for Dance Music were designed to encourage participation by systems which generate their own original music (MIDI + samplers, synths, etc.), as well as those which select from an extant collection of music (playlist algorithms).
>> Any combination of symbolic and audio processing methods are permitted.
>>
>> The goal is to create 15 mins of original music autonomously, in response to a random seed.
>>
>> Registration by April 15th, working submissions by May 1st.
>>
>> See Neukom Institute Turing Tests in Creative Arts, Algorithmic EDM Competition for rules and specs:

>>
>> The evaluation dance party event on May 18th will be covered by national media in the USA. I am looking forward to making this a fun and exciting event, and that can only happen with your submissions!
