Live-coding only conveys meaning (to me) if it is used in reference to "a practice". If live-coding defines a community of practice then it is subscription rather than description that is important. If you call yourself a live-coder, you are a live-coder. If you call your system a live-coding system, then your system is a live-coding system. This is true for engineers as well as artists.

However, as a formal engineering term, live-coding is simply WTF. Trying to categorise what is and is not a live-coding system is too arbitrary to be meaningful**. If you are looking at this (wtf is live-coding) from a formal systems perspective then you are asking the wrong questions.

** note that this is not a problem for a live-coding community of practice because it is based on subscription. This entails that there can be many *different* live-coding communities of practice - which there are (www.livecoding.tv).
