This looks very interesting indeed, although I don't fully understand
what's going on.. Could it be similar to Dave's daisy chain (which
uses a petri net model of computation)?

I disagree that functional representations of music are necessarily
descriptions of how to generate music rather than direct descriptions
of music. I'd say Tidal is closer to the latter, arguably closer to
how music is (potentially) perceived than e.g. staff notation, which
is itself a list of instructions for how to play music rather than a
description of its composition. I don't think we understand music as a
linear sequence of notes, and music compositions are often analysed as
tree structures.

I read elsewhere (on reddit) that you intend to use this blindfolded,
is that true??

cheers,

alex

Thus, all of these languages were either dataflow or functional, both of which are not concrete representations of the music, but are rather languages used to represent programs that generate music. Tanscript, on the other hand, is literally musical notation, that is augmented in power by the ability to write subclasses of notes that can contain conditional nodes that condition on program state. (Songs can also contain instructions that do logic on the program state; these instructions execute instantaneously. In my current architecture, this causes a tiny lag, but I can fix that later by making the interpreter look ahead to find the next note in time to play it at the correct time.)
