I think it's a cultural rather than a technical difference - text='real
programming'=complicated vs diagrams=picture=easy, even though they are
technically equivalent.

I used to work with a load of people with backgrounds in photography and
model making who used a commercial lines & boxes style compositing
package every day. They swore they weren't programming, in fact they
actually _physically couldn't_ program ever, at all, as they repeatedly
told me.

However these 'not programs' were huge & very complicated, and they did
everything good programmers do - sharing useful functions/subpatches and
worrying about the interfaces between them, writing documentation for
each other, and sharing debugging tips. Also, of course, their networks
were converted into text form, and back again each time they saved or
loaded their files.

We used to use the text files to do certain types of jobs like
search/replace for them, but we were programmers, so we could look at
text without it burning our eyes.

cheers,

dave
