I think this is the general case with music. A big part of hearing a
skilled performer make music is watching them do so. You even get
dancers on stage next to the musicians, who aren't even making any
sounds, only gestures... They're still part of the musical performance
and so in a broad sense are making music... So we agree I think but I
am using the term 'music' to include the performance as a whole, which
you describe as 'extra' to the music.
