Hi all,

Just in case your in Melbourne next Friday (22nd of February) I will
be presenting a review of the work I've done on distributed
environments for computer music. More details below.

Cheers,

Rob.

A Distributed Environment for Computer Music.
Friday the 22nd of February at 12:00 midday.
Theatre 3, Level 2, ICT Building 111 Barry Street, Carlton

ABSTRACT:

Fifty years of computer music research has established a wide
range of techniques and tools. Implementing all of these
within a single application is impractical, yet each task
might require a different selection to be applied. Therefor,
the sharing of structured information between distinct
applications becomes a key challenge for computer music as a
field. This challenge is further complicated by real-time and
user-interface requirements. In response, we propose a new
        distributed environment for computer music.

BIO:

Robert Shelton is a final year PhD student in Department of
Computer Science at the University of Melbourne. His current
research interests focus on problems in programming language
        implementation (lock-free concurrency control, incremental
analysis), computer supported collaborative work (user
interface, semantics, semiotics) and computer music with
special attention given to existing computer music programming
        languages such as

                Chuck, http://chuck.cs.princeton.edu
                Imprompty, http://impromptu.moso.com.au
                cSound, http://csounds.com
                Nyquist, http://nyquist.sourceforge.net
                SuperCollider, http://supercollider.sourceforge.net

Aspects of Robert's current research direction were
demonstrated through a real-time programming competition at
        Loop Bar in 2006 ( http://esci.org/livecoda2006/ ).
