Re: [livecode] livecoding.tv

When introducing live coding to new people, I've stopped saying "live
coding" and instead say "live coded music" or "live coded art". Other
programmers quickly understand what you're talking about, and
non-programmers more quickly realize you're talking about the creation or
performance of art.

Wtih respect to musical live coding, a friend of mine suggested ditching
the words "live coding" and coming up with a more catchy name. He liked the
word "Algorave" before learning that Algorave could include more than live
coding. I suggested the name "screengazer" (a play on the "shoegazer"
genre), but I've hesitated to use it. Screengazer sounds too much like a
genre name, and live coding isn't a genre. It also doesn't seem to make
sense to use the word "screengazer" when the music could sound like...
anything. How would this make any sense to others? However, I could see
using the word "screengazer" for describing the live coding _performer_
rather than the music; i.e. we are all screengazers.

However, Dave's screenless live coding kind of throws this whole idea of
"gazing at screens" out the window anyway!
