Will this definition have to be modified under the conditions of algorithmic art? It may be an interesting thesis to say that such art consists in problem solving operations (instead of using them for other ends). But perhaps the relation between problem and solution changes under aesthetic premises. Btw. the same would be true for theoretical computer science (where many algorithms don't solve problems and also don't 'actually' calculate).
