My performance Code LiveCode Live I usually perform(ed) with the laptop on my lap, especially since I am using the accelerometer data as part of the inputs that are mapped during the performance - so as to include all side-effects of livecoding into the performance.
For my current performance using gestures and livecoding the mappings, I prefer to have the laptop at a height where I can stand and code, and I walk away from the laptop at times.
In both cases it is usually somewhat a shock to concert technicians/organisers etc that I do not want the almost standard "laptop/electronics on a table, sitting behind the table on a chair"-setup.
I am also reminded of Alberto's straps for the laptop for a laptop-marching band. The straps would hold the laptop right in front of the body, so you could type and march at the same time.
