Yeah, as a deaf musician/listener I always take off whatever footerwear at home and often place a foot directly next to or even on my woofer - it helps with my sense of rhythm.
I've just moved flat, and in the course of moving destroyed my luxurious office chair... I don't want to pay through the nose for another one so I've taken to sitting on a drum stool at my desk for the last couple of weeks, and I find my posture is a little better for it; so I might stick with this.
As to placement of the computer itself, I normally use an iMac at eye level, but I've had problems with posture when working on my laptop on the floor (especially as it has a fairly small display that can't be leant back very far.) I spotted this "laptop desk" in a shop window a while ago and I've found it helps with elevating the laptop to a comfortable height without having to move myself too far:

Pretty bulky though - and heavy - so if I were to ever perform live I'd have to get a more portable one!
