if you're mac based, I suggest Journler. I've been using it for a couple of
years now. You can put notes into folders and tag them too, which
solved many of my notes-organization problems. But the thing that really
bought me over is the fact that it's a 'journal', that is, it's time-indexed
by default. May seem obvious but various other similar tools lacked that
functionality!
It's not actively developed anymore, but you can get the 2.5.3 version for
free here:
