I'm enjoying this discussion a LOT, especially the new mystical(!) turn it
seems
to be taking - a turn away from syntax ("the laws") and towards an
artificial
physics of juxtaposition ("the distance between two symbols" etc.)
The oscillator example is noteworthy when we bring physics into this mix.
