This is complex. It would be more representative I think to get a broad selection of different formats of data, from from small text files to full blown movies, source code and pdf articles. It might be hard to provide a detailed submission process and keep it this general. [dave]
Also, how does this sort of thing generally deal with licencing? [dave]

Ideas for things to go on the dvd

  • Videos of live performances
  • Screencasts of livecoding
  • Audio of live performances (I think movie only, we did just audio already)
  • Sourcecode
    • Of livecoding sessions
    • Supercollider, chuck etc distributions - maybe (no need for applications I think, nick)
  • Archive of TOPLAP website for posterity (this would be fun, though double checking for script kiddie attacks first would be helpful)
  • Archive of livecode mailing list? (does one even exist?) - not sure about this

Mailing list - I probably have most messages stored on my laptop (I don't delete email :) [dave] Mailing list- I have a complete archive from the earliest days (give or take one stray message) [nick]

How much can you fit on a DVD anyway? [4.7 GB] Should we just concentrate on A/V and audio only, with a snazzy dvd menu, or have a data partition as well (is that even possible?)

See fm's rla for a model for doing this (mixing data and video on a dvd). We could also put a lot of stuff from the LOSS event on there [dave]

Dates / submission process

How long would we need to compile it? Should we try to include particular events (ICMC?)

I think we could proceed relatively swiftly, and shouldn't wait for ICMC. I'm pretty sure there is enough data out there already to fill up a DVD, and some people will probably want to submit videos in the next two months; our problem might be editing down to the final selection! [nick]

Ok, so should the submission process be of final works only or include proposals for works not yet done?

This is complex. It would be more representative I think to get a broad selection of different formats of data, from from small text files to full blown movies, source code and pdf articles. It might be hard to provide a detailed submission process and keep it this general. [dave]

Booklet

Getting a 8 page booklet would be cheap enough - what should go in it?

  • Is there any need? Better to save on resources, and put the info inside? [dave]
  • there should be at least a table of contents and acknowledgement of contributors? Perhaps a little spiel on TOPLAP? [nick]
  • Looking at the short-run website, it looks like 'dvd wrap' (the cover) will be about 50p each and a 4 page colour 'booklet' another 50p. Add 50p for on-disc b+w print and 18p for the duplication. There may be extras but we're looking at around £2 per dvd. We might be able to get a discount package deal like last time too, by going for some standard option. If we can think of something nice to put in the booklet I think it's worth it and affordable.

Printing

http://www.short-run.co.uk/ did a great job on the CD, we could use them again
