What do you consider cheap? If it's only/mainly for livecoding, then you
can get some nice 720p projectors for a few hundred dollars in the US
(sorry I'm not up on UK pricing.)

I have one that I use for experiments, though I haven't tried displaying
code or patches on it yet. If it's a small group, it should work though,
since you can sit with the projector relatively close to the screen for a
brighter/sharper image (i.e. I wouldn't try to livecode with a small
projector like that in a stadium. :-) )
In case you're really interested in that one ping me and I'll try to find
some time to test it with a PD patch and send you a pic...
