You forgot to mention the absolutely essential ingredient of
explaining a few times that laptop adapters need to be ground-lifted
where they have a ground and are used with soundcards lacking their
own power or there will be (non-intentional) buzzes, crackles and
humm.
Sometimes this is enough by itself but at times there is a need to
debate the relative merits of tape, heavy duty wire-cutters, modified
power strips, plugs of dubious legality (in mainland Europe) for this
purpose and the chance of shock from typically non-conductive laptop
cases.
I'd insert this between points 6 and 7.
