Just go for it... projection should be easy- and will work on almost any
surface as long as you aren't bothered about the quality of the image being
perfect. The only constraints I can see that would make them worry are:
1. room being really tiny (unlikely)
2. the room being too light (possible but you can work round this)
3. Not being able to get power there (possible)
4. the old chestnut- Health and safety- (likely)
5. They have curated you into a slot / space and are being inflexible
(likely)

My figuring is that they don't want to run wires to the middle of a room or
adjust the set up. I would just take one and tell them it is needed for the
piece and that you have to have one so are bringing it yourself.
